London Newborn Photography: What to Ask A Newborn Photographer

London-newborn-photography-188

So you’re interested in booking a newborn photography session but not sure who to go with? There are so many things you need to know other than their price list and location!

1.) Have you had any newborn photography training?

This is such an important question to ask (if it doesn’t say on their website) as it makes the difference between a professional newborn photography and not-so professional. It also makes all the difference when thinking about your newborn’s safety. You’ve carried your precious baby in your womb for 9 months, why chance their safety by employing a photographer that doesn’t know how to pose safely?

2.) How long have you been doing newborn photography?

Experience is also key with safety. By having many years of experience it means they are prepared for every type of newborn. It means they know how to keep your newborn comfortable and happy. You should barely have to lift a finger at a newborn session except for feeds as your newborn photographer can do it all!

3.) Do you professionally edit the images?

Are the images provided edited? While it always sounds great to get “all images on a disk” this generally means images aren’t professionally edited. Professional editing is an art and should reflect the style of your newborn photographer. It takes many many hours to edit a newborn session as newborn skin is always a bit tricky, there are also plenty of photoshop tricks used for safe posing!

4.) Do you do studio or home sessions?

This all depends on your personal preference for a newborn session. I typically find amongst newborn photographers that you are going to get the best consistent quality with a studio photographer as they can get consistent results with their studio lighting, props etc and aren’t dependent on the size of a room at a house or the environment at a home (I used to find some homes too cold for a newborn session and with too little or too much light from windows).

5.) At how many days old is it best to do the newborn session?

Newborn sessions are typically held from 5-14 days old as this gives us the best sleepy results.

6.) Are you insured?

Every professional newborn photographer should be insured to cover them in the case of any incidents arising.
