Incorporating your dog into your maternity and newborn session!

If you’ve met me you know I’m particularly animal obsessed. I love all animals- cats, dogs, guinea pigs etc. So when I’m asked my an expecting couple if they can incorporate their dog into their maternity or newborn session I’m all over it. I adore capturing your first fur-baby with your new arrival.

For maternity sessions the best way to do this is to do an outdoor session as it is the most natural for a dog. We go to a lovely forest and have them run around and they have a great time with the other dogs there. I have a series of poses I do for dogs in maternity sessions and make sure to capture their beautiful essence in the images. The first image is a beautiful English bulldog named Bella and she adores her mum! She follows her everywhere, this has particularly increased since Bella has known mum is pregnant! She spent the session doting on her mum and wandering around with us while we posed mum and dad around the forest. Bella was a fantastic model with her delightful squishy face and I can’t wait to photograph her with her family’s new arrival!

The second image is my nephew with his big sister Saydee! Saydee was bribed to do this shot with lots of treats! This is a typical studio session pose I do with newborns and their dog as it is a safe pose to do as we can composite unruly dogs in the picture without being harmful to baby.¬†Saydee has known from the minute that he was in his mum’s belly! Once he arrived she has been so great with him and even got up every hour with mum and dad. It was absolutely hilarious watching her because she was just as tired as new parents because she felt she needed to always be awake when he was awake!
