When to Book Your Newborn Photography Session:
It is best to book your due date while still pregnant (I recommend booking in when you are 12-20 weeks pregnant) to secure your spot. It is best to secure a spot early as I do book up quickly and only take a limited amount of newborns per month to allow for flexibility with early/ late births.
It is best to book as early as possible so that it is one less thing on your baby to-do list! As newborns are best photographed from 5-14 days old while they are super cuddly and sleepy, it is important to set aside the time to secure a session (although I photograph newborns up to a month old and photograph older babies).
About Your Newborn Photography Session:
A session with a newborn photographer is quite an intimate experience as you are entrusting someone to handle, soothe and pose your precious newborn and you spend about 3-4 hours with them. I try to make the newborn photography session as comforting and relaxing as possible by planning out everything to the very last detail.
A Newborn Photography Session can take quite awhile (2-4 hours) and some ask, how can a newborn photography session possibly last up to 4 hours long? Well, newborns are tiny humans that already have their own big personalities and each newborn is different! I always say that during a session the baby is the boss as I like to go with the flow and allow baby to tell me how he/she feels. We work with the mood of baby and modify our session for this.
Our newborn photography session starts with your arrival at our North London Studio. Upon arrival we check if baby needs a feed or needs to be changed. When you first arrive there is time to feed and change baby if needed and then we start the session! I always listen to baby’s needs and take breaks whenever is needed as the session is entirely baby-led. I’m very experienced with newborns (I’ve photographed hundreds and hundreds) so all you need to do during the session is relax on the sofa and watch your adorable baby (many parents even fall asleep)! During the session we get a wide variety of natural and prop images of your newborn baby and also beautiful family portraits.
After Your Newborn Photography Session:
After our newborn photography session is where the magic (and most time spent) happens! This is where I spend up to 15 hours professionally editing each image to my own personal style that I have developed over the years. Newborn skin can be the trickiest to edit as they don’t come out as porcelain and smoothed-skin as we think! Newborns can be very red, jaundice, spotty and flakey as their precious skin adjusts to the outside world. Don’t worry, your newborn’s skin will look perfect in your images! Your online viewing gallery will be ready up to 2 weeks after your session and will have a minimum of 40 images on it. You then select your favourite images and decide on your package!
